As the robots came roaring overhead in shapes they stole from our fathers

I relaxed a little, for this was the most comforting of all possible apocalypses

No vengeful gods these, no preverbal nucleosaurs immune to fuel shortages

Knowledge is power; I can say, that blue one is vain and can be tricked

That black one doesn't want to be here, he's secretly an artist

And that green one even used to be mine, until my friend Jason broke him

But

When the missile flew in huge and close like a lover

So fast no time to look away

And the buildings crushed together

And the glass fell glinting like snow

I curled up

Somehow

Awoke in a blackened basement, with no stairs standing to reach up

And no one left to hear my voice.
