The
genome of an organism refers to its total genetic sequence, expressed in the most basic form as a sequential list of all base pairs in its genetic material. Thus, the memeome is the entire thought-space of a
sentient being, the totality of its
thoughts,
ideas, and
memories.
Just as the genome includes introns (so-called "
junk DNA") that do not seem to be expressable
genes, I would include in the memome all mental activity, even that which can't take the form of a discrete or reproducible
meme.
Note that this term is not in general use, but I think it's a pretty cool idea and certainly should be. I came across the word in
holotrope's writeup on
friends.
