VA Linux sold
hardware that
Linux runs on. They were the leader in Linux
workstations and
servers. They have since gotten
out of the hardware business and are now more
service oriented. They also own linux.com and
Andover, including
Slashdot and
Sourceforge, which are part of the
OSDN (Open Source Development Network).
Update: On December 5, 2001 VA Linux changed it's name to VA Software. In the months leading up to this change, they moved to a hybrid open source/closed-source business model.
