A wero (noun) is a Māori challenge, or taki, performed by armed Māori warriors at a pōwhiri to test the intentions (and mettle) of visitors. By wielding weapons and laying down the challenge, a token, such as a small branch or leaf, is placed for visitors to pick up, showing that they come in peace, and everyone can go about their day. The protocol also establishes the steadfastness and prowess of the one issuing the challenge, and is carefully choreographed based on tradition and custom.

As a side note, the numerical value of wero in Chaldean Numerology is two whereas in Pythagorean Numerology, its numerical value is seven.
