And I don't necessarily mean anything
pejorative about the design of either one. What I'm saying is that
Steve Jobs or his
industrial designers did not get the idea for the
iMac in a
vacuum--the
New Beetle was around for a while before the iMac was released (quite a while in
prototype, actually) and that if the iMac
speakers are the
taillights, the
rear window is the
screen and the
CD-ROM slot is the
center brake light, you end up with an
eerie similarity.
Whenever I'm behind a New Beetle, I feel like someone's got a go-cart with a giant iMac shell.
