The Equitable was a major life insurance and financial service providor in the United States. It was acquired in 1998 by AXA Group International, and forms the bulk of AXA's North American operations.

The Equitable was formed in 1858. One of the first major skyscrapers in New York City was the Equitable Building at 120 Broadway, although, operations have long since moved to midtown Manhattan. While the corporate logo, a greco-roman woman with a shield raised to protect an assumed victim, is emblematic of their focus on life insurance, Equitable began offering EQUI-VEST, it's first non life insurance investment product, in 1980.

Equitable has it's own theme song, entitled "The March Song Of The Equitable".
