A text editor for the Mac, used from the beginning to System 7.1 and System 7 Pro. Similar to Notepad (for Windows, not the Desk Accessory for the Mac) in that it doesn't allow different fonts or font sizes. It was replaced by the more complex SimpleText in System 7.5, which was in turn replaced by TextEdit in Mac OS X. It and its brethren were used primarily for viewing Read Me files, having not garnered the HTML following that Notepad did for Windows.
