A Lombard princess in the 11th century. She was married to Robert Guiscard, the ruler of Lombardy, Salerno, and other parts of Italy. Sichelgaita was quite the imposing figure. She rode into battle beside her husband, wearing full armor, and fought alongside the soldiers with spear in hand. Once, when they turned to flee from the enemy, she screamed at them, "Turn and acquit yourselves as men!" They did, and Guiscard's army won the battle. She was tall and blonde, and one contemporary princess remarked that she was "frightening". Xena, eat your heart out.
