Sebastiano Vassalli is a famous Italian novelist. He was born in
Genova in 1941 but lives in
Novara, a small town that's placed close to
Milan and
Malpensa International Airport. In his twenties and thirties he was a high school teacher and since the seventies he's a full time writer.
His most famous novel is called La Chimera and is about a witch being burnt on the stake in the seventeenth century. It's a very well made historical reconstruction and a very well written and fascinating novel by itself (I liked it more than the more famous The Name of The Rose by Umberto Eco, but I think it's a matter of personal taste). It should be translated and available in all major languages.
