On of the many UNIX signals that can be sent via the kill(1) command or the kill() or raise() calls. SIGTERM is the default signal sent by the kill(1) and killall(1) commands. The signal's intent is to be caught by the receiving process to terminate the process gracefully. If it is not caught by the receving process, it acts exactly like SIGKILL, terminating the process.
