A convenient way to get rid of a lane on a multi-lane road. Can be annoying to drivers not intending to turn right, because you have to merge left, and of course, everyone merges left at the very last minute, resulting in slowdowns. A lot of these people end up merging left illegally, over a solid white line.

These dreaded right lanes also appear in places where they really aren't needed. For example, the right lane must turn right, but still continues across the intersection. These might be useful if a lot of people have to turn right, but I see them in places where hardly anyone ever seems to turn. Thus, congestion results. A better solution in this case would be a right-turn-only lane that forms right at the intersection.
