The Piedmontese breed, from (logically enough) the Piedmont region in Italy's Alps, are thought to actually have descended from Aurochs (the cow's original ancestor) and Zebu (an ancient Pakistani strain) about 20,000 years ago.

They remain Italy's most popular beef breed, and are also fairly popular in other nations, where there climate-adaptibility serves them well.
