Oralet, manufactured by
Anesta,
is a
raspberry-flavored
narcotic lollipop,
and was the first
sedative approved for use on
children. It is used for calming kids
(and to some degree, even adults) before
surgery and for sedation prior to
often more
traumatic preoperative
anesthesia.
The Fentanyl containing candy was approved by the
FDA (Food and Drug Adminstration) in
October 1993, but was delayed a year
while the FDA decided how to make sure
that doctors didn't overprescribe the
highly efficacious pacifier.
