Franklin County, Virginia is the
moonshine capital of the
United States. The
geography of the area contributes to this status, as there is both significant
farmland for growing
corn and other
crops that mysteriously disappear from the land, and some nice
mountains, being right on the edge of
Appalachia.
Busts help to liven up local television news broadcasts in the otherwise tranquil Roanoke Valley -- I'll admit, it's a whole lot better than the murder reports I have to watch all the time when I'm in Richmond.
