Lake Worth is located on the east coast of
Florida, just south of
West Palm Beach, and just north of
Lantana,
Delray Beach, and
Boca Raton. It's not especially well-known for
anything or
anyone, being
just another suburb. The neighborhoods range from very
poor areas to very
wealthy areas; from very
commercial areas to
run down areas that have been virtually
abandoned by
humanity.
Summers are characterized by
mosquitoes,
the smell of crushed mangoes (usually after having
fallen into the
street to be smashed by
automobiles), and a hot, hot
sun. Winters bring slightly fewer mosquitoes, and can sometimes get
chilly... but never too cold.
Lake Worth is named after the
body of water (Lake Worth) between it and
Palm Beach island. It's part of a long strip of water, called the Intracoastal Waterway, that separates the mainland of Florida from a string of
barrier islands. It's not so wide that you can't see the opposite shore; I imagine the average person could swim across without too much trouble.
I grew up in Lake Worth, and it's not so terrible a place. I just wish it would snow.
