Democratic Senator from Louisiana

Senator John Breaux, was born in Crowley, Louisiana. Senator Breaux and his wife, the former Lois Daigle of Lafayette, have four children, John Jr., Bill, Beth and Julie. He is also has two granddaughters, Anna Kate Shepherdson and Campbell McKay Shepherdson. Senator Breaux attended Southwestern Louisiana University and the Louisiana State University School of Law in Baton Rouge.

Senator Breaux was elected to the House of Representatives to represent the 7th District of Louisiana, becoming the youngest member of the U.S. Congress at the age of 28. Fourteen years later he was elected to fill Senator Russell Long's seat in 1986. He has since been reelected two more times. He a Chief Deputy Whip for the Democrats.

Senator Breaux works to promote bipartisanism, he is a leader of the Centrist Coalition of Senate Democrats and Republicans. He also wants to move the Democratic party towards the center. He was a founder and past chair of the Democratic Leadership Council, succeeding Bill Clinton in 1991. Committees:
