The premier
database application for the Macintosh. It has a PC equivalent. This application, originally put out by
Claris, is now owned by its own company, named
Filemaker, remarkably enough. There is no
Microsoft Access for this platform, so the version of
Office for the Macintosh has conversion utilities that work with it. It is an important tool for
Macintosh-based
businesses and many different third-party
solutions are available for it as add-ons.
It is an
ODBC application, so it is possible to hook it up to web services and perform many of the tasks that its older, and more established cousins can. Among Mac users, this is a very popular, killer
Mac app.
It is available at least in
Japanese and
English. Also known as
FileMaker Pro.
