Formerly known as
Canada's only
borough, East York has now been absorbed by the
Megacity known as
Toronto.
East York is home to residents from many social classes although over 60% of residents are over the age of 60.
The elderly population in East York makes good use of the abundance of
bungalows on the lands, as well as the various
seniors homes and social clubs. East York also has strong
lawn bowling and
curling teams.
East York is also known affectionately as
Greek York by the under-20s as the
community borders on
The Danforth, a village of
Greek cuisine and
culture and many non-Greek residents can curse
fluently in the
Hellenic tongue.
The history of
East York can be traced back to the late 1800's to various sawmills and breweries in the
Don Valley. Todmorden Mills and the Don Valley Brickworks are just two sites that remain in operation for historical purposes.
East York is very much a
barren place. If you do not need to be there, you'll never need to drive though it.
Famous people from East York include
John Candy and uh... nobody else.
