Info:
I'm currently 19 and a sophomore in college. Not much else to say.
Interests:
Computer Programming
Right now, I'm coding in Objective-C (gotta love Cocoa) and PHP. Past experience includes VisualBASIC, RealBASIC, and FORTRAN (heh, lots of fun). I'm currently part of a little group called Alpach Software with Brandon (GravitationX).
Video Games
I enjoy a vast array of different video (as well as computer) games, but I do have my favorite genres:
Not really a genre, but they deserves a mention in my eyes. I usually go for anything that Nintendo releases. Mario, Legend of Zelda, Super Smash Bros., Metroid, and Pokémon are among my favorite video game series of all time. Predictably, it's very rare that I find fault in Nintendo's doings.
Also, not a genre, but another one of my favorite companies. Sega has released a lot of innovative titles. Some of my newer favorites include Jet Grind Radio, Super Monkey Ball, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, and Crazy Taxi, though classics like Sonic, Vectorman and Space Harrier still remain fun to play. I'd also like to go on the record as saying that the Dreamcast did not deserve to die.
What can I say. Whether real-time or turn-based. I enjoy the sense of customization and the epic storytelling found in most RPGs. Though I don't have a favorite series, some of my favorite titles include Secret of Mana, Super Mario RPG, Skies of Arcadia, and Ogre Battle 64.
I love the vertical and horizontal shooters of yesteryear. I occasionally enjoy the FPS, but that's not what I'm talking about here. I absolutely love Gradius, Twinbee, R-Type, Paradious, Raiden Fighters, Strikers, the 1942 series, and some of the more obscure ones like Mahou Daisakusen, Twinkle Star Sprites, ESP Ra.De, and Dangun Feveron. I also love the borderline games like Metal Slug (best side-scrolling shooter series ever.)
I do enjoy the occasional fighter. 3D fighters like Soul Calibur and Dead or Alive are lots of fun, but I mostly turn to the 2D fighters like Marvel vs. Capcom, Darkstalkers, Super Smash Bros. (3D graphics, 2D mechanics), and of course, Street Fighter.
Though I'm not a child of the Golden Age of Video Games, I do enjoy a look of the old arcade classics. Some of my favorites include Tapper, Mario Bros., Donkey Kong, Mappy, Pac-Man, Warlords, Bubble Bobble, and Donkey Kong 3.
Heh. Many a night has been wasted playing Dance Dance Revolution. I've been quite the avid player the past year. I love the songs, the steps, and the community surrounding DDR. Since there's no longer a DanceManiax machine near me, I don't play that any longer, but it was just as much fun as DDR. I occasionally hit Beatmania ever once in a while.
Mecha and action are among my favorite genres of animé (hey, I love kung-fu movies, too. What do you expect?), though I enjoy the occasion comedy as well. Solely humorous animé tend to get just a bit too Japanese at times, though. Gundam, Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040, Dragon Ball, Yu Yu Hakusho, and Cowboy Bebop rank among my favorites, along with Tekkaman and Samurai Pizza Cats (::sigh::, I miss that crazy show.)
Half the time, I listening to Game, Anime, DDR, and (as a result) JPop. The other half is spent with the slightly more conventional like They Might Be Giants, Dave Matthews Band, Daft Punk, MC Chris, Smash Mouth, and Jurassic 5, among others.
Other Stuff
Other things that don't really fall into that above categories include Science Fiction, Mystery Science Theater 3000, Macs, kung-fu movies, and technology (computers, gadgets, multimedia, etc.)
