The expansion
NFL football team that began play in the
AFC Central in 1999. The team now plays in the
AFC North, after the
NFL realigned its divisions in 2002. Named after the Cleveland Browns owned by Art Modell who moved away in
1995 to become the
Baltimore Ravens.
The NEW Cleveland Browns had their first winning season in 2002-2003 when they went 9-7 and even made the playoffs. They lost to the
Pittsburgh Steelers in a close game that ended 36-33, after the Browns allowed 22 points in the forth quarter. Known for their furiously loyal fans that sit in the east
end zone, known as the
Dawg Pound.
The OLD Browns are considered the first Great Football Dynasty, in the 1940's. Some great players to have donned the simple Browns uniform are PK/T
Lou Groza,
RB Jim Brown,
QB Otto Graham, and
TE Ozzie Newsome just to name a few.
The Browns play in
Cleveland Browns Stadium on the hallowed ground of the old
Municipal Stadium in
Cleveland,
Ohio.
