baseball, a
minor league affiliate of a given
major league team -- for example, the
Richmond Braves are a farm team of the
Atlanta Braves, and the
Charlotte Knights are a farm team of the
Chicago White Sox.
Generally, drafted players progress up the ladder of farm teams until either they go past their level of talent and wash out of professional baseball, or they reach the major leagues.
