The Dead Milkmen were the subject of the only really funny joke on Beavis and Butthead, when the boys watched their video Smoking Banana Peels.

Beavis: What is this?
Butthead: It's college music.
Beavis: Does it suck?
Butthead: Beats me.

According to an article I once read in some alternative newspaper, the Dead Milkmen began as a joke by the writers of a Philadelphia zine. A couple of them wrote about the band's fake music and tour dates, and readers started to complain that they couldn't find any of the bars where the band was supposed to play, and so they got a couple of musicians together and started playing. The result was a decent-sized pile of pretty funny albums.

Sadly, The Dead Milkmen are no longer touring together, or making music, and have no plans to do so at any time in the future. The guys are all still friends, and the band is not technically "broken up", but the wear and tear of 10 years of solid touring has caused them to all go their seperate ways.

The DM's lineup has changed here and there between albums, and band members have also changed names multiple times between albums. However, at their core, the Milkmen were four:

Dean Clean: Currently playing in The Big Mess Orchestra and collaborating with Joe in his band Butterfly Joe.
Dave Blood: Attending graduate school at a midwestern university, majoring in Eastern European Studies.
Joe Jack Talcum: Playing with two bands currently, Butterfly Joe and The Low Budgets. Butterfly Joe has a CD available.
Rodney Anonymous: Rodney and his wife have a band called Burn Witch Burn, who released a CD last year.

The DM have the following albums available, excluding singles, bootlegs, and such as that. You should buy them all.

Big Lizard in My Backyard-First commercially available LP.
Eat Your Paisley!

Beelzebubba

Death Rides a Pale Cow-Greatest hits collection

Philadelphia based, humorous near-punk band, consisting of Dave Blood, Dean Clean, Rodney Anonymous, and Joe Jack Talcum. Their real names are secret. They first became somewhat known in the mid-eighties, and they never really broke up, though any more albums or tours are extremely unlikely. Their last proper album was Stoney's Extra Stout, from 1995, and since there've been couple of best of albums.

Their musical style is about halfway between Camper Van Beethoven-esque hyphen rock and a kind of psychedelic punk rock. It is no coincidence that they are from the same region as Ween. The Philly/Jersey area does strange things to people. So do certain fungi.

Allegedly named after the Milkman Dead character from Toni Morrison's Song of Solomon. Joe invented the name in high school- the name existed before the band.

Their most famous songs are Punk Rock Girl and Bitchin' Camaro, but those are by no means the best.

Considering that they were a very hippyish band, popular among hippies, they sure did not like them.

Dave Blood took his own life March 9, 2004. According to his sister, he was never happy after the end of the band. I don't know the man and I can't say much beyond that; it's not my place. Let's listen to his music.
