Standard acronym for "Particle Image Velocimetry".

Small reflecitve particles are imersed in a medium, usually a liquid. The medium undergoes some motion and the particles are filmed. The resluting images are used for analysing the motion of the medium. Used in studies of wave-motion and turbulance.

In reference to Living with mismatched libidos:

Penis in Vagina. Basically, an acronym for sex. Just plain old vanilla sex, however you happen to like it. "30 minutes of vigorous PIV" -> 30 minutes of having some fairly hard and heavy generic sex.
