FRS stands for Family Radio Service, one of the citizen bands. Units operating on this frequency are normally small and low powered (1/2 watt), offering up to 14 different channels and a 2-mile communication range. They are primarily used for personal communication.

FRS Radios do not require a license for their operation. Newer models offer lots of features, like pager integration, alphanumeric communication, etc.
