Sergeant Mark F. Parry, 42, of Bel Air, Maryland died
on January 22, 2002 of injuries he suffered on December 27, 2001
when his
patrol car was hit by a man accused of driving drunk.
Parry was a father of three and a 16-year veteran and supervisor
in the Towson precinct of the Baltimore
County Police Department. He is the seventh in the 128-year
history of the force to be killed while on duty.
Parry suffered several broken bones and severe head injuries and
had to be cut from his Crown Victoria.
The driver of the sport utility vehicle, Cesar Humberto, fled the scene.
He was found sitting on a bench about a half mile from the accident.
On January 23, 2002, Maryland Governor Parris Glendening ordered the
Maryland State Flag be flown at half staff
until sunset of interment in his honor.
