A lunar eclipse happend in Europe at January 9, 2001. As you can read there, in Finland you could see a red moon. In my town, Freiburg in Germany the lunar eclipse was good visible - first the full moon looked a bit "not so full", and after a while (20 or 30 minutes), only the upper half of the moon was visible. After another while, there was no moon anymore - but nothing red, either (because of some mist or dust in the air). You could not see the stars in the night sky, either. After another while, the moon appeard again, going back to full moon.
