Anthyllis Vulneraria
Also known as ladies' fingers,
lamb's toes, staunchwort and woundwort. This European perennial is found
in limestone soils, dry meadows and on hills. The strong taproot sends up an
8 - 16 inch stem with leaves. During May to September, yellow flowers appear
in clover-like arrangements.
The flowers of the kidney vetch plant
have astringent properties. An infusion is effective when used to wash
wounds. After washing, the wound should be covered with a poultice which
is changed every hour. Kidney-vetch tea is good as a mild purgative, and
can help to stop vomiting in children.
