A
Bear hugging a
tree is the
symbol for
Warwickshire. Actually, I suspect the bear is
chained to the tree. The
vignette is more formally known as
The Bear and Ragged Staff. It appears on many
Pub Signs, is the name of many
pubs, and is also the name of the
newsletter for the
Warwickshire cell of
CAMRA.
Allegedly, the origin of the ragged staff is that Guy of Warwick killed a dragon with a stripped conifer. I don't know where the bear comes into it...
