The Unmaker is the villain of "The Tales of Alvin Maker" by Orson Scott Card. The theory is that, for every maker, there is also an unmaker. While the maker creates, the unmaker tears down. Notably, whenever he felt the touch of the Unmaker, Alvin Maker felt the need to make something, even if as insignificant as a knot or a grass basket. Alvin Maker decided to use his talent to defeat the Unmaker, thus the conflict of the whole series of novels.
