Illustrator and writer for
Mad magazine. Berg was born in
Brooklyn and was most famous for his "Lighter Side Of..." feature in MAD, which represented a welcome departure from the more sophomoric humor often found in
William M. Gaines's famous 'zine. The Lighter Side would often satirize a specific topic, such as
marriage or
religion in a subtle manner. For example Berg could never bring himself to say "yecch" or "blech" in any given piece. Berg often portrayed himself in his strips, usually under the
pseudonym of Roger Kaputnik. Berg passed away May 16, 2002 in
Marina Del Rey,
California.
Also, the name of a current baseball player for the Toronto Blue Jays. So far as I know, he is of no relation.
