A voting system (or electoral system) is a method where individual voters cast ballots for candidates in an election where only one winner is possible.

Some popular and not-so-popular voting systems include:

• First past the post (a.k.a. plurality)
• Single transferrable vote (a.k.a. instant runoff or runoff)
• Approval voting (a.k.a. nominal ballot)
• Borda count (a.k.a. ordinal ballot)
• Condorcet voting
