Irena Szewińska (née Kirszenstein)

Polish athlete (runner and long jumper). Born 1946.

With a career in world élite sports that lasted from 1964 to 1978, Irena Szewińska kicked off her career with a bang when she won Gold at the 1964 Olympics in the 4 X 100 m relay, as well as Silver in the women's 200 m race and in the long jump.

In 1968 Olympics, she won Gold in the women's 200 m race and Bronze in the women's 100 m race. In the 1972 Olympics, she won Bronze in the women's 100 m race. In 1976, her last Olympic Games, she won Gold in the women's 400 m race.

Additionally, she won five European Championships and set 10 world records.
