A soccer (or football, if you live in Europe) stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa.

A large venue, seating a maximum of 62 000 people, Ellis Park has played host to many internation events. Some that stick out are The 1995 Rugby World Cup final, Paul Simon concerts, Sting concerts, Midnight Oil concerts, numerous fireworks shows and, of course, South African soccer matches.

Unfortunately, Ellis Park also played host to a massive tragedy on Wednesday, 11 April 2001, when 43 people were killed and at least 155 people were seriously injured, when a crowd vastly exceeding the stadium's capacity tried to squash through the gates to watch the biggest game on the football calendar: the derby between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs.
