Josef Stalin, the successor of
Vladimir Lenin went on a program of mass killing during the late 1930's.
Anyone disloyal to the Communist party was sent to a gulag, where chance of survival was low. Thousands of farmers and peasants loyal to the czars were summarily executed.
Stalin even managed to kill his own wife and son. All in all, over three million people died in a four year period.
