Lohengrin was the main character in a popular
German tale in the stories of
King Arthur. He was the son of Percival, one of the few to accompany Galahad on his excursion for the
Holy Grail.
Lohengrin fought for Elsa of Brabant's hand in marriage, at the request of Arthur, and won. His only request of Elsa was that she did not ask of his name or origin. She eventually did so, and Lohengrin disappeared.
The epic story Parzival was the first account of this story, written by the German poet Wolfram von Eschenbach in about 1210. Richard Wagner also wrote an opera version of this story, titled "Lohengrin."
