American born 1923, awarded the Nobel prize in physics in 2000. Professor at Texas A&M University 1978-85. Previously worked for Texas Instruments, and it was there invented the microchip, laying the foundation for modern microelectronics. He has received several prestigious science awards and he holds over 60 patents.
