The C++ Programming Language Freakshow (thing)

Every week I discover something about C++ (see my writeup there for my "unbiased" opinion). Some days I think of writing my own C++ book. I shall call it Revolting C++.

  • C++: Only 911 pages in the book!
  • C++: The programming language whose book grows exponentially!
  • C++: how the parser and the lexer fight over templates
  • C++: why input is >> and output is <<
  • C++: computing Fibonacci numbers at compile time
  • C++: What's this? A reference?
  • C++: function templates and information hiding
  • C++: standard names for source files
  • C++: no compilers available
  • C++: brackets to make an object not a function
  • C++: inconsistent syntax (was: C++: catch is exempt from standard C++ syntax)
  • C++: how big is nothing?
  • C++: objects with no type
  • C++: (a=b)=c
  • C++: static extern "C"
  • C++: the scope of friendship
  • C++: true or false?
  • I wanted to mention delete[] too, but when I tried to write it up sarcastically I couldn't make it any worse than it really is.

I think C++ as a first language is a joke, but some university departments would appear to disagree.
