The island of Murano is just to the north of the main islands of Venice, in the Venetian Lagoon. It can be reached by several vaporetto lines, or by water taxi or excursion boat. Murano is notable for glasswork; it contains all the major Venetian glass factories. There, maestros (masters) of the art of glasswork produce all manner of products, ranging from the incredibly campy and/or cheesy to the sublime and magnificent. Murano is just north of (and is easily visible from) the Fondamente Nuova.
