In real estate, a dual agent is a real estate agent who represents both buyers and sellers of property. They should not attempt to represent the buyer and the seller in the same transaction. Often, they will handle this ethical dilemma by asking a co-worker to represent one party or the other. They are, however, usually privy to information already disclosed (such as how much the buyer can afford to pay), and may be unable to avoid the temptation or pressure to leak this information to the agent next door.

Real estate agents can be successful and ethical dual agents, but it doesn't come automatically. Buyers should be extremely careful in such a situation.
