A Japanese saying used to encourage conformity. In its original language it is thus:

"Deru kugi wa utareru."

Good to know. Believe it or not, I feel that America could use a bit of conformity itself. Sometimes it's just easier on everybody if you go with the flow, put the good of the many before the good of the few, and claim that you like it.

Because pretty soon, you'll find that you do.


(I find it ironic that Eye Candy uses the word "Zen" below.) Nowhere did I suggest that one should cease to be an individual. I merely stated that America, with its rabid drive toward individualism, often loses sight of common courtesy. If we as a society were a little more afraid of sticking out and causing other people problems, then perhaps we'd all get along better. The happy medium between the extremes that are Japan and America will probably never be found, but I'm searching for it anyway.
