Here is a little
history. In 1926
Abe Saperstein organized and coached a new basketball team called the
Savoy Big Five. In 1927 they changed the name to
Saperstein's New York Globetrotters later changing their name to the Harlem New York
Globetrotters to let people know they were going to be watching
black people. The
joking around and making fun of the other teams began in 1939 when the Globetrotters had a 112-5 lead over their opponents and began to mock them. Saperstein said as long as they win they can do that. Thats how the
legacy began. The team has had many great players but the most notable must be NBA great
Wilt Chamberlain.
