An
instrument used to measure the height of something (ex. trees, hills etc.) It measures either the
angle of
depression or the angel of
elevation formed with the object of the unknown height being the opposite side in a
right triangle. The height is than found by using trigonometric identities such as
Tan
Sin and Cos.
It is one of the oldest instruments used in science.
