Night of the Comet (thing)

Sort of like Day of the Triffids meets Night of the Living Dead, with a little Omega Man thrown in. Only people hiding out in enclosed metal rooms during the comet's passing fail to get turned into reddish dust. Those partially exposed turn into George Romero extras. Some highlights:

• An honest to goodness attempt at a surprise ending
  
• Chakotay appears as "hunky" early twenties male love interest - then gets chased around his house by a 12 year old zombie in a scene oddly remeniscent of Maximum Overdrive
  
• Geoffrey Lewis (of Lawnmower Man and Fletch Lives fame) turns into a flesh eating zombie
  
• World ends
