Back in the days when the Toronto Blue Jays played at Excruciation (nee Exhibition) Stadium,
my friends and I used to go and pay $4 to sit in out in left field in the bleachers behind George Bell. Now ol' Jorge was a fine hitter but his defense used to leave something to be desired. We used to sit near the
outfield wall and tell jokes about George and yell stuff at him. (We were young and vaguely rebellious.)
... and so on.
So one day we got to the ballpark early. George was out by the wall throwing warm up with one of
the ball boys. Every time George caught the ball, we leapt up and cheered wildly. After about 6 or 7
iterations, George gave us The Finger.
It's one of my most treasured baseball memories. That and Joe Carter's home run, of course.
