A genre of music, created in New York, said to be the newest incarnation of the Andy Warhol/Velvet Underground/Factory scene. Electroclash has similarities to synthpop, punk, electro, and new wave. It can be called "techno," but it substitutes a sharp-toned, lyrical structure for traditional techno's more smooth, beat/melody-oriented structure.

Often associated with the NY art scene, an electroclash show is as likely to take place in a haute-couture art gallery as in a club. Some bands, such as Fischerspooner, add a large performance art element. Others, like the Faint, stick more to pure, synth-driven attitude.
