A form of
wordplay invented by
Howard Chace in the
1950s. It consists of
sentences and longer
texts in which the entire text has been replaced by
near-
homophones. One of the best known
examples is the story
Ladle Rat Rotten Hut.
Anguish Languish was repopularized in the 1980s by a few puzzles and contests in Games Magazine which focused on making or deciphering some text in Anguish Languish.
The name "Anguish Languish" is Anguish Languish for "English language."
