Yôkan (羊羹) is a type of very thick jelly made from azuki
beans and agar-agar, often eaten as an accompaniment to
green tea.
For some entirely inexplicable reason, the kanji characters
for "yookan" actually
mean "sheep" 羊 and "hot soup" 羹, which is why the word is nearly
always written in hiragana as ようかん.
