A scattergun is a type of shotgun that is optimized for completely obliterating something at short range without terribly much worry about aim. Having a smooth bore (as opposed to a rifle which has a rifled barrel) and a short barrel. The whole point is to make a well distributed spread of pellets. Such a gun is usually loaded with buck shot, fitted with a large magazine, and a pump action for quick repeating.
A good example of a scattergun is the Mossberg 590.
Such a gun is usually used for:
- Home defence.
- Lead Fisted crowd control for bananna rebublic dictators.
- Close combat
- Blowing up of old computers, furbys, etc... =:-)
