newsgroup on
Usenet devoted to discussions of
puzzles of all types. The
FAQ for rec.puzzles grew to be so large that it couldn't ever reasonably be posted to the group, or would have to be split into many, many parts to do so; most often, only the list of
questions answered in the FAQ was posted, with a link to where the answers were available, at first by
FTP and later on the
web. Because of this, the FAQ ceased to be called a FAQ and instead became known as the rec.puzzles archive.
The rec.puzzles archive contains, among other things, the majority of the puzzles from Martin Gardner's long series of Mathematical Games articles and books, simply because these are so widely-read and thus popular topics.
