rack rash - slang

Term used to describe the condition of music or computer equipment which is normally mounted on racks. The extent of rack rash is limited to some scuffing by the holes in the ears used for rack mounting. Rack rash is also scratching on the top and/or bottom due to sliding a piece of equipment into/out of a rack. Rack rash is normal and can be prevented by plastic or Nylon spacers between metal and screws.
